Registration was disabled to prevent spambots from joining up. You all remember those problems I am sure.

I would gladly re-enable registration, if we could foil the spambots some how.

*EDIT: I have researched a anti-spambot mod that looks promising. Will attempt modding the board this weekend.

Are the bots able to fill in that 'text box code' thing? What about also putting in something like what will the the date tomorrow?

Just modded the code for the CAPCHA and re-enabled new registrations.

@Hollywood: I made add a question/text answer field if this CAPTCHA mode isn't enough.

@Glowstix: Donnie, I find that isn't very effective, as it's not just new links to bogus spam but thousands of fake accounts that get created.

Yup, even with the modifications. But nothing like before at hundreds a day, perhaps a small handful. So look like further mod's are needed.

While it may seem a bit elitist... how about someone 'applying' for membership onto the Board? Applications will be approved based on their ability to fill out in a text box their purposes of joining the Board in one or two sentences max. Would that help you better in sifting through what applicants/registrants are bots and which are authentic?

I have tried something similar, Admin approval. It requires me to review hundreds of registrations per day, and 99.9% of them are bots.

Anyways, I have further modified the CAPTCHA and have seen two new users and neither of them are bots so I will continue to monitor.
